Order of Service 21 February

Messiah: Ministry and Mission of Jesus (8)

Due to the Covid19 restrictions, we are not currently permitted to hold worship services in the church building.  However, services will be recorded and will be available to listen to as usual.  Today you can also watch a video recording of the service on YouTube – search for Bruce Memorial Church.

The February edition of Steeple News is now available to download on our website.

You can download the February Prayer Diary from our website.  Paper copies are available in the box outside the church along with Try Praying booklets – feel free to take one for yourself or to pass on to a friend.

We are all missing seeing one another and being able to catch up with friends.  If you would like to take part in a Zoom call with others from the church, please email timmsmargaret@yahoo.com and Margaret will send you an invitation.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!

O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation!

All you who hear, now to His temple draw near,

Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who has fearfully, wondrously, made us;

Shelters us under His wings and so gently sustains us.

Have you not seen all you have needed has been

Granted because He ordains it?

Praise to the Lord, who does prosper your work and defend you.

Surely His goodness and mercy will daily attend you.

Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,

If with His love He befriends you.

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!

All that has life and breath, come now with praises before Him.

Let the ‘Amen!’ sound from His people again;

Gladly because we adore Him.

Call to worship – Psalm 150

Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim,

And publish abroad His wonderful name;

The name all-victorious of Jesus extol;

His kingdom is glorious and rules over all.

God ruleth on high, almighty to save;

And still He is nigh, His presence we have;

The great congregation His triumph shall sing,

Ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.

“Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!”

Let all cry aloud, and honour the Son;

The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,

Fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb.

Then let us adore and give Him His right:

All glory and power, all wisdom and might,

All honour and blessing with angels above

And thanks never ceasing and infinite love.

Amen!  Amen!

Prayer of adoration and confession

Together Time – I am the One and Only

Jesus said “I am the Vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15.5)

Teach me to dance to the beat of Your heart.

Teach me to move in the power of Your Spirit.

Teach me to walk in the light of Your presence.

Teach me to dance to the beat of Your heart.

Teach me to love with Your heart of compassion.

Teach me to trust in the word of Your promise.

Teach me to hope in the day of Your coming.

Teach me to dance to the beat of Your heart.

You wrote the rhythm of life,

Created heaven and earth,

In You is joy without measure.

So, like a child in Your sight,

I dance to see Your delight,

For I was made for Your pleasure,

Pleasure.

Let all my movements express

A heart that loves to say 'yes',

A will that leaps to obey You.

Let all my energy blaze

To see the joy in Your face

Let my whole being praise You,

Praise You.

Bible Reading                                          Luke 12.35-59

O for a heart to praise my God,

A heart from sin set free;

A heart that always feels thy blood

So freely shed for me.

A heart resigned, submissive, meek,

My great Redeemer's throne;

Where only Christ is heard to speak,

Where Jesus reigns alone.

A humble, lowly, contrite heart,

Believing, true, and clean,

Which neither life nor death can part

From Christ who dwells within.

A heart in every thought renewed,

And full of love divine;

Perfect and right and pure and good —

A copy, Lord, of thine.

Thy nature, gracious Lord, impart,

Come quickly from above;

Write thy new name upon my heart,

Thy new best name of Love.

Sermon

1. Good and Faithful Servants v.35-48

2. Expect Division! v.49-53

3. Be Reconciled to God! v.54-59

I stand amazed in the presence

Of Jesus the Nazarene;
And wonder how He could love me

A sinner, condemned, unclean.

How marvellous! how wonderful!

And my song shall ever be:
H
ow marvellous! how wonderful!

Is my Saviour's love for me!

For me it was in the garden

He prayed ‘Not my will but Thine’

He had no tears for His own griefs

But sweat drops of blood for mine.

He took my sins and my sorrows

And made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calvary

And suffered and died alone.

When with the ransomed in glory

His face I at last shall see;
It will be my joy through the ages

To sing of His love for me!

Prayer of thanksgiving and intercession

O Church, arise, and put your armour on;

Hear the call of Christ our captain;

For now the weak can say that they are strong

In the strength that God has given.

With shield of faith and belt of truth

We'll stand against the devil's lies;

An army bold whose battle-cry is love,

Reaching out to those in darkness.

Our call to war, to love the captive soul,

But to rage against the captor;

And with the sword that makes the wounded whole

We will fight with faith and valour.

When faced with trials on every side,

We know the outcome is secure,

And Christ will have the prize for which He died—

An inheritance of nations.

Come, see the cross, where love and mercy meet,

As the Son of God is stricken;

Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet,

For the Conqueror has risen!

And as the stone is rolled away,

And Christ emerges from the grave,

This victory march continues till the day

Every eye and heart shall see Him.

So Spirit, come, put strength in every stride,

Give grace for every hurdle,

That we may run with faith to win the prize

Of a servant good and faithful.

As saints of old still line the way,

Retelling triumphs of His grace,

We hear their calls and hunger for the day

When, with Christ, we stand in glory.

Benediction

The Lord bless you and keep you

Make His face shine upon you

And be gracious to you

The Lord turn His face toward you

And give you peace.

Amen, amen, amen

Amen, amen, amen.

May His favour be upon you

And a thousand generations

And your family and your children

And their children, and their children.

May His presence go before you

And behind you, and beside you.

All around you, and within you,

He is with you, He is with you.

In the morning, in the evening

In your coming, and your going

In your weeping, and rejoicing

He is for you, He is for you.

He is for you, He is for you.
