Order of Service 10 January

Messiah: Ministry and Mission (2)

Due to the ongoing Covid19 situation and the further tightening of restrictions, we are not currently permitted to hold worship services in the church building.  However, the services will be recorded and will be available to listen to as usual.

It is with sadness that we intimate the deaths of two of our members:

Mrs Jean Clark, latterly of Allan Park House

Mr Edward Curley, formerly of Grierson Crescent

Please remember both families in your prayers.

The Kirk Session will meet by Zoom on Monday 18th January.

You are here moving in our midst

I worship You, I worship You.

You are here, working in this place

I worship You, I worship You.

Waymaker, Miracle Worker,

Promise Keeper, Light in the darkness

My God, that is who You are!

You are here, touching every heart

I worship You, I worship You.

You are here, turning lives around

I worship You, I worship You.

Even when I can’t see it, You're working

Even when I don't feel it, You're working

You never stop, You never stop working

You never stop, You never stop working.

Call to worship – Philippians 1.2-6, 9-11

All people that on earth do dwell

Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice

Serve Him with joy, His praises tell

Come now before Him and rejoice.

Know that the Lord is God indeed

He formed us all without our aid;

We are the flock He comes to feed,

The sheep who by His hands were made.

O let the earth rejoice

Lift up your voice and magnify His holy name.

O enter then His gates with joy

Within His courts His praise proclaim;

Let thankful songs your tongues employ

O bless and magnify His name.

Because the Lord our God is good

His mercy is forever sure;

His faithfulness at all times stood

And shall from age to age endure.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow

Praise Him all creatures here below;

Praise Him above ye heavenly host

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Prayer of approach to God – Psalm 80 NLT

Turn us again to Yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies.

Make Your face shine down upon us.  Only then will we be saved.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

His mercies never come to an end.

They are new every morning, new every morning;

Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord, great is Thy faithfulness.

Love the Lord your God

With all your heart

With all your soul

With all your mind

And with all your strength

With all your heart

With all your soul

With all your mind

And with all your strength

I will love You (I will love You)

I will praise You (I will praise You)

I will serve You (I will serve You)

I will trust You, Lord.

Bible Reading            Luke 4.14-30

By faith we see the hand of God

In the light of creation's grand design;

In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness

Who walk by faith and not by sight.

By faith our fathers roamed the earth

With the power of His promise in their hearts;

Of a holy city built by God's own hand

A place where peace and justice reign.

We will stand as children of the promise,

We will fix our eyes on Him our soul's reward;

Till the race is finished and the work is done,

We'll walk by faith and not by sight.

By faith the prophets saw a day

When the longed-for Messiah would appear;

With the power to break the chains of sin and death

And rise triumphant from the grave.

By faith the church was called to go

In the power of the Spirit to the lost;

To deliver captives and to preach good news

In every corner of the earth.

By faith this mountain shall be moved

And the power of the gospel shall prevail;

For we know in Christ all things are possible

For all who call upon His name.

Sermon

I heard the voice of Jesus say,

“Come unto me and rest

Lay down thou weary one,

lay down thy head upon my chest.”

I came to Jesus as I was,

Weary and worn and sad

I found in Him a resting place

And He has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,

“Behold I freely give

The living water, thirsty one

Stoop down and drink and live.”

I came to Jesus and I drank

Of that life giving stream

My thirst was quenched,

My soul revived and now I live in Him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,

“I am this dark world’s light

Look unto me, thy morn shall rise

And all thy day be bright.”

I looked to Jesus and I found

In Him my Star, my Sun

And in that light of life I'll walk

Till travelling days are done.

Prayer of thanksgiving and intercession

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not

As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,

Join with all nature in manifold witness

To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,

Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Benediction

I lift my eyes to the quiet hills

In the press of a busy day;

As green hills stand, in a dusty land

So God is my strength and stay.

I lift my eyes to the quiet hills

To a calm that is mine to share;

Secure and still, in the Father's will

And kept by the Father's care.

I lift my eyes to the quiet hills

With a prayer as I turn to sleep;

By day, by night, through the dark and light

My Shepherd will guard His sheep.

I lift my eyes to the quiet hills

And my heart to the Father's throne;

In all my ways to the end of days

The Lord will preserve His own.
